The Centennial Building: From Historic Courthouse to Vibrant Community Hub

The Centennial Building, a notable landmark in the Town, boasts a rich history dating back to the early 1850s. Originally constructed as the Ontario County Courthouse, it functioned from 1854 to 1964 as a trial court and a meeting place for the County Council. In a significant transformation in 1967, coinciding with Canada's centennial celebrations, the building was converted into a community theatre. This marked the beginning of its role as a central hub for cultural and community activities.

In 2002, the Centennial Building underwent another major renovation. This time, it was to accommodate a banquet facility and local archives, further enhancing its utility and historical significance. Recognizing its historical and architectural importance, the building was officially designated an heritage building in 1979.

Today, the Centennial Building stands as one of the Town's premier rental facilities, widely used by various community organizations. Its evolution from a courthouse to a multifaceted community space reflects its adaptability and enduring significance in the town's history and culture. Read more.
