High School Altercation in Whitby Escalates to Assault with Noxious Substance
A student at Henry Street High School in Whitby was charged with assault after spraying another student with dog spray during a verbal altercation. The incident, resulting in minor injuries, led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male.

Police Seize Drugs and Firearm in Clarington Residence; One in Custody
Bradley St. John, 44, of Clarington, was arrested following a drug investigation that uncovered drugs, paraphernalia, and an unlicensed firearm in his residence. He faces multiple trafficking and firearm charges and was held for a bail hearing. The police are seeking additional information from the public.

Durham's Youth in Policing Hosts Inspiring 4th Annual IMPACT Forum

On January 13th, the local police force's Youth in Policing recently held their 4th Annual IMPACT Youth Forum, a much-anticipated event designed to empower and inspire young individuals. This year's focus was on the theme 'Act,' emphasizing the importance of taking proactive steps amidst challenges. The forum, held at the Abilities Centre, saw an impressive turnout with over 160 in-person participants and an additional 80 engaging virtually.
The event featured a rich agenda of team-building activities, crime prevention discussions, and motivational keynote speeches. Chief of Police, Peter Moreira, initiated the forum with impactful remarks on the significance of action in daily life. The morning session was enlivened by stirring talks from Sunjay Nath and De-Mario Knowles, who inspired the youth with their positive messages and emphasis on leadership and change-making.
The afternoon session was equally enriching, with Mike Shoreman and Tracy Schmitt leading empowering workshops. They shared their personal stories of overcoming obstacles, underscoring the theme of resilience and action. Their narratives deeply resonated with the audience, leaving a profound and lasting impression.
The success of the event was also a testament to the diligent efforts of the Youth in Policing Team, including Program Coordinator Jeevika Selvakumar, Supervising Team Leader Aditdi Senthil Kumar, and Team Leaders Harnoor Sagar and Daniyal Naqvi.
