Durham College Research Centres Boosted by $2.1M Federal Grant

Durham College's applied research centres are set to make significant advancements in addressing industry and social challenges, bolstered by a substantial $2.1 million federal grant. This funding, awarded by the College and Community Innovation (CCI) program's Mobilize grant, will be distributed over the next five years and is poised to revolutionize the way the college engages in innovation and collaboration.

The grant was secured by the Office of Research Services, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ORSIE), with the aim of expanding research capacity and promoting inclusive work environments. One of the key goals of this funding is to enhance research and innovation training opportunities for students, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges.

Debbie McKee Demczyk, the dean of ORSIE, emphasized the significance of this funding. It serves as a cornerstone for all activities across the college's applied research centres, providing a competitive edge with expert staff and resources. This support ensures that Durham College remains a reliable and enduring partner for companies seeking research and innovation collaboration.

The CCI program is a collaborative effort managed by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), alongside the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

ORSIE's applied research centers, which will benefit from this grant, include a diverse range of facilities such as the AI Hub, Centre for Craft Brewing Innovation, MRC Studio, Centre for Cybersecurity Innovation, and Social Impact Hub. For more information about ORSIE and its impactful work, individuals are encouraged to visit Durham College's website at www.durhamcollege.ca/orsie and to explore the 2022-2023 Annual Report.
