Trivia Answer

Correct Answer: D) Pickering was not annexed to Metropolitan Toronto, contrary to local ballot support.

Durham Region's boundaries in 1974 were different from the expectations set in 1972. Notably, it was widely expected that the town of Pickering would be annexed to Metropolitan Toronto, a decision that had local support as evidenced by a ballot question. However, this annexation did not occur when the Durham Region was established. Instead, Pickering remained a part of Durham Region, marking a significant deviation from the anticipated boundary changes. This decision was part of the broader process of establishing regional governments in Ontario during that period.
