Oshawa's 'Toys for Tickets' Campaign Brightens Holidays with $2,200 in Toy Donations

The City of Oshawa's "Toys for Tickets" campaign has successfully raised over $2,200 in toys for needy children this holiday season. The campaign allowed motorists with parking tickets to donate toys instead of paying fines, collecting $700 in toys and $1,500 in online donations. These donations supported the 35th Annual D.R.P.S. Food and Toy Drive, continuing a tradition that has been part of Oshawa's community support since 2006. Read more.

Iroquois Park Sports Centre Announces Temporary Pool Closure for Maintenance

The Iroquois Park Sports Centre is temporarily closing its pool for maintenance, affecting aquatic programs and activities. Regular pool activities will resume on January 6. Meanwhile, the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex is offering free public swims until December 31, with schedules available on the town's website. Alert: Scam Calls Targeting Whitby Charity Hockey Game Donors

Whitby authorities warn of a scam involving calls asking for donations for the Pro Hockey Heroes vs Whitby Firefighters game, a charity event at Iroquois Park. These fraudulent calls, falsely claiming to be from Whitby Fire and Emergency Services, seek funds for the game, which supports Durham Region Crime Stoppers. The public is advised that WFES does not conduct phone fundraising and to report suspicious calls to the Durham Regional Police Service at 1-888-579-1520. Read more.

Police Appeal for Help in Locating Missing Woman Last Seen in Oshawa

The search is ongoing for 24-year-old Kaitlyn, last seen in Oshawa in early November. Described as having an olive complexion, slim build, and long dark hair, Kaitlyn is of no fixed address. Concerns for her safety are raised by both her family and police. The public is encouraged to share any information with local police or anonymously through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through their website. Informants may qualify for a cash reward of up to $2,000 for valuable information. Read more.

Congratulations!! Another Spin Records, after two successful years, is excited to announce the expansion to a new location at 217 Dundas Street East in Whitby, a site with a notable past. Renovations are underway for the store, previously home to Build a Birdhouse and Durham Precious Metals, with a tentative opening date set for December 2nd.
