Durham Police Service Hosts Heartwarming Cop Shop Event for Local Children

The 2023 Cop Shop event, hosted by the Durham Regional Police Service, brought joy to 48 deserving children. The event included a pizza lunch, a meeting with Santa Claus, and generous contributions from the Pickering Town Centre, including a $250 gift card and other festive treats for each child. The children were chosen based on various criteria, including need and community contributions. The event was a success thanks to the collaboration and generosity of volunteers and sponsors.

Ontario Tech's 16th Annual Robotics Competition Sparks STEM Enthusiasm Among Students

Ontario Tech University hosted its 16th Annual Engineering Robotics Competition, attracting over 250 students from various schools. This event, part of a longstanding tradition, encourages students to apply their STEM skills in a practical setting. Participants used LEGO Mindstorm technology to build autonomous robots for a maze navigation challenge. R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate and Vocational Institute won the competition, with other schools receiving special awards. The event, organized by the Engineering Outreach office, aims to foster interest in engineering and STEM among students.

Oshawa Police Bust Magic Mushroom Sales, Seize Over $80,000 in Illegal Products

After the Donald Trump Rally in Phoenix, protestors classed with the police. Tear gas flew both ways.. and eventually the police dispersed the peaceful protestors. Three individuals were arrested in Oshawa for selling illegal psilocybin products at the Fun Guyz business. The Central East Division Community Response Team conducted two raids on December 6 and 7, 2023, resulting in the seizure of substantial amounts of psilocybin products and cash. The suspects, Steve Gasden, Istvan Csere, and Daniel Hiscock, face charges of possessing controlled substances for trafficking and possessing crime proceeds. The police are encouraging the public to provide any additional information related to these incidents. Anyone with new information about these incidents is asked to contact the Central East Division Community Response Team at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1708. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.

Inquest into Ajax Man's Death at Lindsay Jail Concludes, Homicide Ruling Recommended

The coroner's office in Ontario recommends classifying the 2016 death of Soleiman Faqiri in Lindsay jail as a homicide. Faqiri, who was detained following a mental health crisis, allegedly experienced a physical altercation with guards leading to his death. The inquest into his death, aiming to prevent similar incidents, concluded with differing opinions on the cause of death, but its findings will not be legally binding.

Government May Intervene if Grocers Don’t Agree to Code of Conduct, Says Federal Agriculture Minister

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay is considering government intervention if major grocers don't support the grocery code of conduct. In upcoming meetings with other ministers, they will discuss responses to this reluctance. The code's launch has been delayed, with some key supply chain players, including Walmart Canada and Loblaw, yet to sign, citing concerns over potential price increases for consumers.

Nashville Challenge Cup Victory for Oshawa Generals U16A Red Team After Intense Final

The Oshawa Generals U16A Red team made a remarkable showing at the Nashville Challenge Cup, culminating in a thrilling victory against the Oshawa Generals U16A White team. The final game, a true test of skill and endurance, ended in a dramatic shootout after a tense regulation time where both teams scored goals. Despite the intense 3 vs. 3 overtime yielding no results, the teams displayed commendable effort and opportunities.

The resilience of the U16A Red team was on full display, with Jake Weatherbee netting both regulation time goals. Goalie Emmerson Bates played a pivotal role with his exceptional saves, while Austin Egerton's decisive shootout goal ultimately clinched the win for the team.

Their journey to the finals was marked by an impressive 4-0 record in the round robin stage, overcoming teams from Nashville, Philadelphia, Illinois, and Las Vegas. The team's strong defensive play and goaltending led them to the top of their group after the round robin matches.

The victorious gold medal team comprises goalies Emmerson Bates and Ewan Bennett, defensemen Lucas Black, Spencer Cordell, Calum Forrester, Jace Imrie, and Allan Zhang, and forwards Jake Bidgood, Brady Cleary, Dylan Craven, Austin Egerton, Race Fairfull, Noah Gallant, Clayton Galusha, Jacob Kessinis, Jake Weatherbee, and Brady Wheeler. The team's success was supported by Head Coach Doug Bennett, Assistant Coaches Mark Evans and Mike Hubble, Trainers and Goalie Coach Nick Bates and Peter Fairfull, and Manager Dawn Gallant. The team extends its gratitude to the players, coaches, and families for their unwavering support and for making the tournament a memorable experience.

In a gesture of sportsmanship, the U16A Red team congratulates the Oshawa U16A White team on their outstanding performance, showcasing Canada's prominence in hockey.
